Raquel Sánchez assures that Mitma is working to make Spain an international benchmark for sustainable mobility

The congress is firmly supported by the Ministry and will bring together more than 7,000 representatives of the mobility sector and 250 national and international experts, and will connect dozens of entrepreneurs and investors in the automotive, transport, logistics, urban planning, infrastructure management and energy sectors.

During the presentation conference at IFEMA, Minister Raquel Sánchez expressed her intention to make Spain an international benchmark for sustainable mobility to attract investment and technological innovation, stating that, to achieve sustainable mobility that allows us to face the challenge of climate change, we need the commitment of everyone: the public sector, the business sector, the academic and social world and the active involvement of citizens.

Sustainable Mobility Act

In her speech, the head of Mitma explained that the response to these challenges is embodied in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement, as well as in the European Green Pact and the European Strategy for Sustainable and Intelligent Mobility, which will lead to a 90% reduction in emissions by 2050.

In this regard, the minister stated that Mitma has set up a national strategy, in coordination with the rest of the competent administrations and in open dialogue with the private sector and users, which will culminate in the Sustainable Mobility Act, the draft of which will soon reach the Lower House of Parliament, and for which funds from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan are being used.

For the head of Mitma, it is a matter of favouring the least polluting modes and taking advantage of technology to achieve intelligent management of the different networks, while at the same time providing an opportunity for our business and innovation fabric, exploring all fields of the energy transition, from hydrogen to synthetic fuels and biofuels, and from the renewal of the vehicle fleet to electric recharging infrastructure.

In the case of Spain, the forecast is that by 2030 connectivity, electrification and the electric car will contribute 15% to our GDP. According to the minister, these benefits must reach everyone, especially the least populated areas of Spain, whose citizens must have the same opportunities.

Visit to the International Real Estate Exhibition (SIMA)

After the presentation of the Global Mobility Call congress, Raquel Sánchez made the inaugural visit to the International Real Estate Exhibition, SIMA, a reference event in Spain that starts today and ends on 29 May, also at IFEMA, which will serve to showcase the Recovery Funds for Urban Rehabilitation and Regeneration, which will be allocated €6,820 million for a sector that is key to the implementation of the Government's Recovery Plan.

The minister was accompanied by the secretary general of the Ministry's Urban Agenda and Housing, David Lucas, and by the director general of the Public Business Land Entity SEPES, Fidel Vázquez. This Mitma entity is fully involved in the "Affordable Rental Housing Scheme", which has €1 billion from the Recovery Funds.

Mitma at SIMA 2022, via Sepes

The Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, through the SEPES Public Business Entity for Land, is taking part in the 23rd edition of the SIMA real estate fair, with a stand where it will showcase the activity carried out by the entity "Affordable Rental Housing Plan", which has been launched to boost the supply of affordable rental housing vis-à-vis imbalances in the rental market in certain areas and with which it aims to act as a reference in the containment of rental prices, by increasing the rental housing stock in particularly stressed areas of the market.

SEPES plays a fundamental role in the management of this Plan, developing the land it owns and which, stemming from its activity, it had acquired strategically in previous years. The state entity for land develops land to obtain plots suitable for constructing affordable public housing, with an emphasis on sustainability.

Sepes is currently developing land to make room for 5,697 affordable rental homes, included in the Affordable Rental Housing Plan:

• Malaga. "Buenavista Residencial", with a capacity for 1,362 dwellings.
• Seville. Artillery Barracks, an action under development, with the capacity to provide 853 dwellings.
• Ibiza. Ca n'Escandell, a project under development, with the capacity to provide 464 dwellings.
• Ceuta. Loma Colmenar, 90 dwellings.
• Melilla. Gabriel Morales, with the capacity to provide 90 dwellings.
• Valencia. Engineers Barracks, urbanisation works in progress, with the capacity to provide 438 dwellings.
• Valencia. Artillery Barracks, an action under development, with the capacity to provide 600 dwellings.
• Madrid. 221-hectare site under development, with the capacity to build up to 10,700 dwellings. Currently, 1,800 dwellings are provided.

SEPES also continues to study other possible locations in Palma de Mallorca, Barcelona, Gran Canaria, Tenerife, the metropolitan areas of Seville and Bilbao, and Alicante to provide urban land for more than 20,000 homes for affordable rentals.

In parallel with developing the actions underway, SEPES is also working on a model agreement to be signed with the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda and local and regional administrations to regulate the execution and financing of the Plan. This will be done by means of specifications that regulate the bidding procedure for the public-private partnership to award, for a specific period of time, a surface right on the urbanised land of each development.

In line with the Spanish Urban Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the 2030 Agenda, SEPES carries out its activity in land management and subsidised housing actions under the triple prism of sustainability: social, economic and environmental.

The right to access to decent and adequate housing, enshrined in the Constitution, is a priority challenge for this Government, the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and the Urban Agenda, and Sepes.

Housing is one of the pillars of the Welfare State that requires the attention of all public administrations and to go further, incorporating private agents to expand the range of options.
