State Investing in Roadwork Development Project in Wyandot County, More Than $154 Million for Appalachian Improvements

May 07, 2024

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) - As part of its ongoing effort to support community enhancement, the Ohio Department of Development today announced the release of funding for an impactful roadwork improvement project in Wyandot County.

Through the Roadwork Development Grant (629) program, the Valencia Project LLC in Salem Township has been awarded $176,750 for public roadwork upgrades.

"The state's Roadwork Development program is a vital piece to helping communities grow and prosper," said Department of Development Director Lydia Mihalik said. "This investment will produce more than 100 jobs to boost the local economy of Wyandot County and will have a lasting impact on the everyday lives of those who live there."

The 629 Program was designed to promote economic development, business expansion, and job creation, and to preserve existing employment opportunities for local jurisdictions.

The Valencia Project LLC includes the resurfacing and widening of a one-mile section of County Highway 108 from State Route 53 to County Highway 330 by two feet on each side. Additionally, turning lanes will be added to County Highway 108, measuring approximately 285 feet, and County Highway 330, measuring approximately 1,320 feet. The roadwork improvements will accommodate increased traffic into the Valencia Project, LLC manufacturing facility.

As a result of the project and state assistance provided, 114 new, full-time equivalent jobs will be created.

Through the 629 Program, the state is covering 50 percent of the $353,500 estimated eligible costs related to the project.

The Ohio Controlling Board approved the release of these funds at its Monday meeting, along with $154 million announced May 1 by Governor Mike DeWine for the Appalachian Downtowns and Destinations Initiative.
