Comets Rally To Tie Up Redlands Before Darkness Falls

REDLANDS, CA (02.14.20
) - The UT Dallas baseball team rallied for four runs in the top of the 7th inning Friday before the opening game of a three-game series at the University of Redlands was suspended due to impending darkness with the score tied, 7-7.

The game will be resumed at 11 am Saturday (1 pm Central) with Redlands coming to bat in the bottom of the 7th. Game Two of the series will follow.

The Comets were at risk of the opener being called early had they not rallied to tie the score with the four-run 7th inning. After six innings, UTD was down, 9-5 before staging the big two-out rally with a 2-RBI triple from junior third baseman Nick Bailey, who then pulled the Comets to within one by stealing home. Senior then drew a walk, stole second and scored on an error by the Bulldog shortstop to tie the score.

The Comets had taken an early 4-1 lead in the 2nd when Bailey delivered another 2-RBI triple in a four-hit inning. The transfer from Austin was 3-for-4 with 4 RBI at the end of the day.

Starter got no help early from the UTD defense, which accounted for five unearned runs as Redlands put eight runs on the board in the 3rd-5th innings.
