Bismarck Fire Department responds to apartment house fire

At approximately 2:34 PM on Tuesday June 1, the Central Dakota Communications Center received a report of an apartment on fire in the 200 block of east Arbor Ave. The Bismarck Fire Department was dispatched to investigate. The first arriving fire crew arrived on scene to find heavy smoke and fire showing from a second-floor window. The apartment was unoccupied at the time of the fire and occupants from neighboring units where evacuating.

The fire crew established command, deployed hose lines, and began an aggressive interior fire attack. Additional fire crew members arrived on scene and assisted with establishing a water supply, pulling additional hose lines, searching adjoining apartments, and interior fire attack. When the fire was extinguished an overhaul operation was conducted to find any remaining smoldering materials.

Seven fire department apparatus and 22 fire fighters were dispatched to the scene. The Bismarck Police Department assisted with scene control. Metro Area Ambulance was on scene to provide medical support. The Crisis Care Chaplaincy was called to the scene to provide support. One firefighter suffered a heat related injury and was treated and released. The apartment was unoccupied at the time of the fire and suffered major damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
