SAN ANTONIO (September 20, 2021) - SAFD and Meals on Wheels join forces for Falls Prevention Awareness Week, September 20-24, 2021.This effort seeks to raise awareness that falls are preventable. SAFD has created a safety-tip flyer for Meals on Wheels to deliver to homebound seniors during this special week.

Falls are common and costly, especially among Americans age 65 and older. But falls are preventable and do not have to be an inevitable part of aging. Every second of every day, an older adult (age 65+) suffers a fall in the U.S.-making falls the leading cause of injury and injury death in this age group. One out of four older adults will fall each year in the United States, making falls a public health concern, particularly among the aging population (CDC).

'People we serve, the older and disabled, are especially at risk of injury if they fall. That's why we appreciate SAFD providing this important safety-tip flyer to deliver with meals,' said Vinsen Faris, Meals on Wheels San Antonio CEO.

Falls continue to be a national public health concern. That's why we're encouraging you to remind older adults to learn about their falls risk during Falls Prevention Awareness Week. Printable safety tips to prevent falls can be found here in English and Spanish:
