City of Syracuse to Conduct ReZone Syracuse Public Hearing on August 22

The City of Syracuse will conduct a public hearing on Monday, August 22 at 1 p.m. for the environmental review of ReZone Syracuse. The hearing will take place in Syracuse Common Council Chamber in Syracuse City Hall at 233 E. Washington Street in downtown Syracuse.

ReZone Syracuse is a multi-year effort to comprehensively revise and update the City's zoning ordinance and map. Zoning laws address how land is used and specify allowable uses and designs of property. The ReZone Syracuse project has five goals:

• Create a user-friendly ordinance
• Update zoning districts
• Modernize land uses
• Introduce uniform standards to improve the quality of development
• Streamline the development review procedures

The Syracuse Common Council approved the ReZone Draft Generic Environmental Impact Statement (DGEIS) on Aug. 1. The document is available online at bit.ly/rezonesyrDGEIS. The DGEIS is a required regulatory step prior to final approval of ReZone. It describes the potential environmental impacts of the proposed changes and presents mitigation measures to address those potential impacts.
