Visiting any new location for the first time can be stressful, and even more so for a neurodivergent child or adult. The same can be true for anyone with social anxieties. The Library's IDEA (inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility) team added the social story tours to the Rock Island Library website to make visits a more comfortable experience.

Individuals and families can view the visual tours online at the library's Locations and Hours page as many times as they like, to gain confidence and familiarity before encountering a new environment. The step-by-step visual tours for each of the Rock Island Library's four physical locations help children and adults know what to expect at each location.

To view a tour, use the "Virtually Tour This Location" link under each library site at Locations and Hours. "This is My Library" social stories are based on the Libraries and Autism: We're Connected templates, and were produced by library staff.

For more information about library events and services, visit the library website, call 309-732-7323 (READ,) or follow library social media pages.
