AirAsia’s OURSHOP to support local farmers with FAMA

SEPANG, 6 July 2020 - OURSHOP, the e-commerce platform powered by AirAsia's logistics arm Teleport, is mobilising its resources to support local farmers through the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA). OURSHOP launched a new category called OURFRESH offering fresh and frozen produce directly from the source, with next-day delivery guaranteed for Klang Valley customers.

'We saw the growth of fresh and frozen produce during the Movement Control Order (MCO) and decided to introduce OURFRESH as a category on the e-commerce platform, with convenience of next-day delivery and competitive pricing as our key unique selling points. We want local producers to grow beyond traditional markets, expose them to new customers, and share with customers the delight of next-day delivery. We'll begin in the Klang Valley, expanding throughout Malaysia including East Malaysia, before venturing into the Asean region.

'All merchants on our platform would also have the opportunity to sign up for specialised Small and Medium Entrepreneur (SME) upskilling courses by RedBeat Academy and Google, with the fees waived,' OURSHOP Head of Marketing Grace Chin said.

FAMA is a marketing agency under the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industries that aims to improve the marketing of agro-food products such as vegetables, fruits and agro-based industry products by ensuring that it is available at affordable prices.

Dato' Abdul Ghariff bin Ramin, Deputy General Director (Development) of FAMA said, 'When the COVID-19 pandemic hit the country, there was an excess of unsold agriculture supplies. Since the farmers' markets could not operate as usual due to the Movement Control Order (MCO) phase, Controlled Fresh Markets or Pasar Segar Terkawal (PST) was introduced as an alternative. The partnership between FAMA and OURSHOP will provide a beneficial e-commerce platform that can help agribusiness expand and have a wider reach, while giving customers better value for their money.'

To support this aim, OURSHOP signed on Agrobazaar Malaysia, FAMA's marketplace, as a merchant, in an effort to provide an e-commerce platform and marketing support for farmers and agribusiness industry entrepreneurs under FAMA. OURSHOP will feature products from a total of 200 farmers of various fruits, vegetables, poultry and fish. The farmers are located across Semenanjung Malaysia through the FAMA State Operations Centre.

From now until 31st July, customers in Klang Valley can enjoy free shipping on OURSHOP. There will also be a one day storewide sale on 7th July with discounts up to 70%*.
