Firearm Recovered After a Shot Spotter Activation in Mattapan

At about 9:18 PM, on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) arrested Rircardo Marcelin, 36, of Hyde Park, on firearm charges.

Officers responded to the area of 33 Edgewater Drive for a shot spotter activation for four rounds. Upon arrival, officers observed a motor vehicle accident and began to render medical aid. Officers also observed a male individual in the area drinking an alcoholic beverage and asked him if he had heard or seen anything.

Officers asked the male for clarification on what he heard, but he began to distance himself. Officers observed the male to be touching a crossbody bag, and observed it to be weighted down. Officers attempted to conduct a pat frisk of the individual who then pushed officers away. A struggle ensued, and officers felt what they believed to be the handle of a firearm inside the bag. The suspect was able to be placed into handcuffs and a firearm was recovered from the bag.

The firearm was later determined to be a loaded RG Revolver with four live rounds and one spent shell casing.

Marcelin was placed under arrest and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition. He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
