3 HCM features you should turn on (for free)

We know that building features doesn't mean that they're automatically adopted by customers. And there are many good reasons-including good ones-that your Oracle Cloud HCM implementation may look different than what we think of as best practice. However, some capabilities are "must haves" for almost all customers because they provide baseline functionality and a high ROI. So, let's look at three of the features that can help you get (or keep) your HCM implementation updated and on track, features that:

  • Don't require you to buy anything new.
  • Are relatively easy to implement (i.e., no systems integration, heavy project management, etc.).
  • Deliver immediate benefits to employees, managers, and the HR team.

1. Connections

Connections is part of your Core HR subscription. At its most basic level, Connections is an employee directory that provides a convenient way to look up information about employees and the organization, things like contact information and time zone, reporting structures, and formal job titles. But it is more than that. Connections can also:

  • Provide a universally accessible, centralized point of reference for company information.
  • Give employees control over their own profiles, helping them increase visibility into their skills and interests-plus the opportunity to network with others.
  • Promote adoption of Oracle Cloud HCM by raising awareness of its capabilities, including features like: the AI-powered, HCM Assistant chatbot; employee recognition badges; links to HR points-of-contact; and benefits information.

2. Journeys

Journeys is also part of your Oracle Cloud HCM subscription. It helps employees navigate unfamiliar, HR-related processes with guidance and specific steps needed to complete the task at hand. Because of this contextual "understanding," Journeys is extremely flexible in the ways it can help employees complete processes across a range of scenarios. Journeys is straightforward to adopt and offers the HR team easy wins. If you aren't using it now, you should. Learning how Journeys can address common HR challenges is a highly valuable skill for HR analysts, process owners, and implementers.

To get started, we recommend:

  • Enabling the employee-onboarding Journey to reduce administrative hassles and make new team members feel welcome.
  • Adopting Journeys for the ten most common yet unfamiliar employee tasks, things like health and wellness actions, marital status changes, relocations or changes of address, and whatever else is driving service-request volume for your HR team (note that these tasks can vary by business unit, geography, and other factors, all of which can be accounted for by Journeys).
  • Selectively deploying a specific subtype of Journeys called Guided Journeys to address important, administratively intense processes (e.g., helping a manager complete an international promotion for the first time).

3. Career Portal

Oracle Talent Management customers should be aware that one of Recruiting's strengths is delivering an excellent candidate experience through a beautiful career portal. Building an engaging, functional portal is worthwhile since it can help attract talent, improve brand image, and cut recruiting costs. You don't need any design or programming skills to launch a fully branded career portal in Oracle Recruiting-and you don't need to buy anything new or hire outside experts. You can see the type of results that are possible with these examples from Tiffany & Co. and Hearst.
