Finalists for AIIJC international AI competition for children announced

The finalist teams of the Artificial Intelligence International Junior Contest (AIIJC) have been selected. Forty-five teams from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Vietnam, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Thailand, and other countries have qualified for the final. They have until October 18 to solve the final problem in their chosen track and prepare a presentation of their solution together with AI experts.

AIIJC is organized by Sber in collaboration with the Artificial Intelligence Alliance. Over 26,000 participants from 101 countries around the world have joined the contest since the pre-selection stages began, and over 1,800 solutions to problems have been uploaded. The organizers also held two online educational boot camps for the contestants, with over 2,100 school and university students from various countries participating.

Andrey Chertok, Head of R&D, Sber AI, Sberbank:

"We are seeing immense interest in AI technology among children and teenagers all over the world. For many of the participants, it was the first time they were able to apply AI to real-world business problems across the 10 tracks overseen by Sber companies and divisions: SberAI, Rabota.ru, 2GIS, Sber AR/VR Lab, the Robotics Laboratory, SberMedAI, Citymobil, SberDevices, SberEducation, and the Neuroscience and Human Behavior Laboratory. All the participants had access to a large selection of educational materials from Sber, the AI Academy for schoolchildren, and the AI Alliance companies."

Inna Markelova, head of School Education department, Artificial Intelligence Alliance:

"Artificial intelligence is shaping the future. It is important that children learn how to work with AI and apply it to various tasks starting from school. AIIJC offers students the opportunity to immerse themselves in creating real projects, gaining invaluable experience and knowledge. More importantly, the event's global scale allows them to test their mettle at the highest level of competition and hone soft skills like international communication and teamwork, which are important for a successful career in the future."

The results of the competition will be announced and the winners awarded on November 12 in Moscow at AI Journey 2021, which is being held in the framework of the Year of Science and Technology in Russia. The total prize fund of the competition is RUB 13 mn.
