On April 29-30, the negotiation on an agreement between Mongolia and the European Union on geographical indications was held in Brussels, Belgium.

Representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Intellectual Property Office of Mongolia and the EU team led by the Agriculture and Rural Development Department of Asia and Australia conducted the negotiation. During the negotiation, the both sides engaged in a constructive exchange of information on the laws and regulations and possible legislative reforms pertaining to the geographical indications. The two sides discussed the draft agreement to ensure clarity of its provisions and agreed to exchange the list of several products under the agreement.

The EU expressed its continued support for raising awareness among the public and enterprises about the benefits of geographical indication and identifying the potential products covered by the agreement. Within the framework of Mongolia's policy and initiatives on the export development, the geographical indication agreement is of vital importance for promoting value-added production by granting protection to agriculture and non-agriculture products originating from Mongolia in the EU markets.
