Lady Blues Down Lawrence in Efficient Three-Set Sweep

APPLETON, Wis. - The Illinois College volleyball team quickly swept aside Lawrence University on Saturday afternoon, 3-0 (25-14, 25-12, 25-14). The Lady Blues had a team hitting percentage of .325 in the match, while the Vikings had a negative hitting percentage in each set and ended at -.047 for the match. The win improves IC to 16-6 (6-1 Midwest Conference), and with other results around the MWC, lifts the Lady Blues into second place in the conference standings.

Illinois College began the first set by scoring seven of the first eight points and never allowed Lawrence to get closer than three points after that. With the score 9-6, IC reeled off another seven straight points. served up three aces in that stretch of play. would end the set with four kills on five swings while also joining in on four IC blocks to help put it away for a 1-0 lead.

In the second set, both Pankey and had four kills apiece and the Lady Blues jumped ahead to another big lead by scoring nine of the first 11 points. LU was its own worst enemy, committing nine attack errors, including a block from Dameris and to end the set.

IC gained control of the third set early on with a 5-1 lead. At 9-4, Illinois College began a string of six unanswered points to put the score out of reach. Pankey had five kills in the set on six swings and Horstmann was a perfect four-for-four on her attack attempts.

Pankey led all players in the match with 11 kills. Ramsey had a match-high .636 hitting percentage with seven kills and Horstmann had a .625 hitting percentage with six kills. handed out 32 assists and added eight digs. led all players in the match with nine digs. At the net, Dameris had seven block assists in addition to her eight kills.

Illinois College comes back home for three matches next week, starting with the Set, Serve and Rally for a Cure match against MacMurray College on Oct. 23 at 7 p.m.
