Government Allows Summer Events to Have More Participants

'Easing of restrictions does not however mean that there would not be a need for caution. The virus is still spreading from person to person, and it has not disappeared from among us, so please act responsibly,' said Prime Minister Kaja Kallas. 'The Indian or delta strain of the coronavirus has started to spread in Estonia, this is a more infectious strain compared to the previous ones and it must be taken seriously. It is important to know that vaccines also offer considerable protection against the delta strain. Thus, everyone who vaccinates themselves, also contributes to there being as few COVID-19 restrictions as possible in Estonia.'

The easing of restrictions on the number of participants is cross-sectoral and concerns sport, movement events, youth work, recreational activities and education, refresher training and in-company training; public meetings and events, culture, church activities, entertainment services, saunas, spas, swimming pools.

There will no longer be a set limit on the number of visitors to the outdoor areas of museums and exhibition halls, but if events are held on the territory of museums or exhibition halls, the requirements for public events will apply, i.e. the maximum number of participants may not exceed 5,000 people.

In shops and service points and in the interior areas of catering establishments, the current restrictions will continue to apply, which means that up to half of the interior areas may be filled and dispersion must be taken into account in the location of people.

From 28 June, the number of participants in public events and activities where infection safety is guaranteed will also increase. Up to 6,000 people can then take part indoors and up to 12,000 people a day outdoors, provided that the person can prove that they are not infectious.

The Government has today made the decision in principle and plans to approve the order on Thursday. The Government Communication Unit will publish the order and its explanatory memorandum on the kriis.ee website, the order will also be published in the Riigi Teataja.
