BYRON, Calif.- California State Parks is pleased to announce the reopening of Bethany Reservoir State Recreation Area (SRA) to vehicle traffic and for boat launching starting Thursday, Jan. 27, 2022.

Located in the northernmost part of the San Joaquin Valley, Bethany Reservoir SRA is a popular place for water-oriented recreation, especially fishing and windsurfing. It is also the northern terminus of the California Aqueduct. Since April of 2021, State Parks has been engaged in a clean-up and refurbishment of the park. Paving, striping, and curbs were completed by Department of Water Resources as part of the Dam improvements project.

The road leading to the north parking lot will remain closed to vehicle traffic until further notice. Pedestrian access is allowed. Parking fees will be collected via an iron ranger, so please bring exact change. Parking is $10 per day and the boat launch fee is $7 per boat. State Parks reminds visitors to recreate responsibly as COVID-19 is still present and deadly. Prior to leaving home, visitors are asked to check the status of the park units they want to visit to find out what restrictions and guidelines are in place. Having a back-up plan in case their destination is crowded is recommended. For additional guidelines and safety tips, please visit parks.ca.gov/COVID19.
