“We are taking steps which will make Türkiye a natural gas hub”

Speaking at the ceremony for delivery of natural gas to Kastamonu's districts of Bozkurt, Abana, Cide and İnebolu, President Erdoğan said: "While we are building natural gas networks across our cities, we are also taking steps which will make Türkiye a natural gas hub."

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan addressed via videoconference the ceremony for delivery of natural gas to Kastamonu's districts of Bozkurt, Abana, Cide and İnebolu.

"As a result of our long-explorations, we finally made a significant discovery in the Sakarya Gas Field in the Black Sea. We shared the good news with our people and accelerated the efforts to connect the Black Sea gas to our country's system. The drilling works have been completed in 9 of the 10 wells of the first phase of the Sakarya Gas Field. 5 of the 10 well valves which will transfer the gas in the sea to the production tank have been installed. At the moment, 3 drilling vessels, 9 main construction and assembly vessels, 20-30 support ships, depending on the work load, are operating in the field," President Erdoğan said.

"WE WORK DAY AND NIGHT TO BRING MORE GOOD NEWS TO OUR PEOPLE"

Noting that nearly 7 thousand workers are operating both on land and at sea, President Erdoğan said: "80 percent of the works at our Filyos Natural Gas Processing Plant has been completed. 97 percent of the 170-kilometer-long pipe-laying efforts at the bottom of the sea has been completed. As you can see, we are building an energy base -so-to-speak- 2200 meters deep in the sea. Inshallah, we will begin to use this gas next year. Our Sakarya Gas Field will be the fastest-constructed open sea field development project from discovery to production."

"While we are building natural gas networks across our cities, we are also taking steps which will make Türkiye a natural gas hub," President Erdoğan said. "Türkiye now has 7 international pipelines, two land and two at-sea LNG facilities, 2 underground natural gas storage facilities. Our daily natural gas input capacity has reached 360 million cubic meters. Thanks to our natural gas storage facilities, we now can meet the sudden spikes in demand in winter without pushing the system or putting additional load on the system. The construction of our new floating LNG facility is ongoing in Saros. We are expanding our underground natural gas storage facility in Silivri. When our domestic gas comes into play, Türkiye will become a country where natural gases compete with one another, and reference price is set in its region. In addition to the current investments, we stand ready for new natural gas pipelines and all kinds of cooperation on LNG. With this purpose, we are in close contact with a wide range of countries, stretching from the Middle East to Central Asia and the Mediterranean."

"We are preparing to establish an advanced natural gas market in our country, where multiple actors, multiple products, multiple contracts come together and set the reference prices," President Erdoğan underlined.

"We work day and night to bring more good news and introduce new achievements to our people in various fields, including energy, in 2023, the centenary of our Republic," President Erdoğan said.
