Former Plymouth College Preparatory School site for sale

Its proposed sale follows the recent relocation of the school to the College's main site at Ford Park, which will result in a more efficient and cost-effective operation that is expected to improve the education experience for all age groups.

The substantial 4.5 acre site is located one mile west of Plymouth city centre, within The Millfields conservation area.

The property originally formed part of the Royal Navy Hospital, which occupied the estate from 1758 until 1995. Since its closure, the majority of The Millfields has been converted and redeveloped for commercial and residential uses.

Captain's House, which adjoins the school site and was originally one of the College's boarding houses, was sold in 2018 and has recently been converted into high-end apartments.

The current sale includes several notable buildings, including the main school building, known as the Ascot Building and the Grade II listed St Dunstan's Abbey Chapel. Also included within the sale are the sports hall, two smaller scale, single storey octagonal buildings, as well as the 1.58 acre playing field.

Nick Jones, head of the development team at Savills Exeter commented that; 'This is an extremely rare opportunity to acquire a significant edge of city centre brownfield site on the highly-regarded and historic Millfields estate. The buildings have scope for a range of alternative uses, subject to planning, including residential, it could even remain in the education sector or suit other institutional uses. We are expecting a good level of interest from both developers and occupiers.

'The property has become available as a result of the College's continued success and its decision to consolidate its operations and expand its provision at Ford Park.'

Commenting on the School's relocation, head of Plymouth College, Jo Hayward said:

'Our relocation at the start of this academic year to the main site at Ford Park has been a great success, and our pupils are enjoying the Senior School facilities, which include an indoor swimming pool, science laboratories, art studio and design and technology workshop.'

The freehold of the property is available for sale by informal tender and is being offered as a whole or in up to six lots.

The closing date for submission of offers is 12 noon on Friday 17 December. For more information visit https://search.savills.com/property-detail/4829c5f9-f427-48bf-9b4b-fc5d90aa4b3d
