May 26, 2022 14:30 KST

Good afternoon. Let me start today's briefing.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Park Jin will deliver opening remarks at the 2022 Korea-LAC Commemorative Forum, which will take place in Seoul on Friday, May 27, to mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Korea and 15 Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) countries.

At the first LAC-related event to be held by the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs since the launch of the new government, around 40 people, including experts, diplomats, members of the National Assembly and academia, and business leaders, will put forward various recommendations on ways to reinforce the Korean government's policies toward LAC.

In his opening remarks, Foreign Minister Park will congratulate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Korea and 15 LAC countries this year and convey the new Korean government's will to boost its diplomacy toward LAC.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Park Jin will meet with the Ambassadors from the ASEAN Member States to Korea tomorrow, Friday, May 27.

At the meeting with the Ambassadors from the ten ASEAN Member States, his first with members of the Diplomatic Corps in Korea since his inauguration, Foreign Minister Park will explain the Korean government's foreign policy objectives focused on ASEAN, and the two sides will discuss ways to step up ASEAN-Korea cooperation.

ASEAN, which lies at the center of the Indo-Pacific region, is Korea's core cooperative partner for achieving freedom, peace and prosperity in the region. Accordingly, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, starting with the meeting, will further strengthen communication with ASEAN and pursue cooperation in a substantive and mutually beneficial manner.

Lastly, on Tuesday, May 31, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will start to temporarily issuelegacy (green cover)ordinary multiple passports at a much lower fee for those who wish to obtainprevious green cover ordinary passports instead ofnew navy covernext-generation ordinary passports.

The Foreign Ministry, expecting that the legacyordinary passports continuously being made available along with next-generation ordinary passports will help people pay less for their passports, will continue efforts to offer passport-related services in a stable way.
