Congressman Krishnamoorthi Commends Biden Administration’s Support of the TRIPS Waiver For Global Vaccine Access After Congressional Letter

SCHAUMBURG, IL - Today, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL-08) commended the decision of U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai to support the World Trade Organization (WTO) TRIPS wavier for global vaccine access. This came at the urging of Krishnamoorthi and 109 other Members of Congress. Congressman Krishnamoorthi also previously pressed the White House to release access to the stockpiles of AstraZeneca vaccine to India.

'Today's decision by Ambassador Tai to support the TRIPS waiver shows that American leadership on the world stage is back,' said Congressman Krishnamoorthi. 'To defeat the COVID-19 pandemic and its variants, we must make sure other countries that are facing surges in the virus are equipped to ramp up their vaccine efforts. Waiving intellectual property requirements on vaccines will allow countries in need to produce their own stockpiles, vaccinate their citizens, and prevent the spread of the virus both abroad and at home.'
