DFI Retail Group launches regional food…

According to the United Nations*, hunger impacts about 375 million people around Asia. The effects of the pandemic and stagflation issues have also seriously affected the amount of food donations across our regions.

Therefore, as a leading pan-Asian retailer, DFI Retail Group (DFI) has stepped up and is committed to serving communities and reducing hunger.

In November 2021, Wellcome partnered with Foodlink and launched the 'Sik Jor Fan Mei' Rice Donation programme in Hong Kong and Macau. In a short period of five months, Wellcome has hit its target of raising HK$5 million, which is equivalent to 16 million bowls of rice to the those in need.

Following the success of the 'Sik Jor Fan Mei' initiative, DFI further expanded its reach to Singapore and Malaysia.

In Singapore, DFI has partnered with The Food Bank Singapore to launch the 'Have You Eaten' CSR programme in August 2022. The campaign aims to provide the equivalent of one million meals in food donated to the less fortunate in two years. DFI will contribute a percentage of its revenue from the sale of its own brand - Meadows rice towards feeding those in need.

In Malaysia, Giant Malaysia had announced the "Sudah Makan?" CSR programme in the same month, with a target to provide 500,000 meals for families in Malaysia and NGOs in collaboration with The Lost Food Project. The initiative was launched by gifting a Giant delivery truck to The Lost Food Project, along with 4,000kg of food essentials to 200 families in need.

These programmes serve as part of DFI's wider Corporate Social Responsibility efforts to reduce hunger and increase food security in the regions in which it operates. Through these programmes, DFI aims to inspire the industry, customers, and team members to contribute towards the community and create a greater impact for good.
