Calgary Fire Responds to Multiple Fires

At approximately 3:10 in the morning on September 18th, 2021, the Calgary Fire Department responded to 911 calls for smoke in the 100 block of Rundlecairn Road in the northeast community of Rundle. On arrival, fire crews encountered large volumes of smoke issuing from a single story detached residential home. On further investigation, fire was found to be venting from a rear bedroom window on the main floor of the house. Firefighters were able to quickly attack the fire from the exterior while other crews worked their way into the house to attack the fire from the inside.

The fire was quickly brought under control and a lone occupant was able to self-evacuate with minor smoke inhalation. Firefighters worked to extinguish hot spots throughout the house and the male occupant was transported to hospital by EMS. Crews will be on scene for the next several hours and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

The CFD was also busy with a recreational vehicle fire in the southeast Valleyfield commercial area. Crews arrived to find a fully involved motor home with one occupant suffering smoke inhalation. Crews quickly extinguished the fire and assisted in treatment and transport of the occupant.

During the same time frame CFD responded to calls for smoke in a 3 story residential building in the 300 block of 9A street northwest. Crews arrived to a building in alarm with smoke on the interior. Firefighters are currently evacuating the building and working to extinguish an interior fire.

The Calgary Fire Department reminds all Calgarians to ensure that you have working smoke alarms in your home.
