LEADERSHIP OAKLAND ANNOUNCES 2021-22 CORNERSTONE PROGRAM CLASS

(Pontiac, MI- ) Leadership Oakland is proud to announce its LOXXXII Cornerstone Program Class, made up of a diverse group of regional leaders from across the county.

This group of 48 professionals will take part in a nine-month leadership experience, kicking off with a two-day retreat - followed by monthly sessions on topics facing this region: Education, government, the justice system, health and human services, race and ethnic diversity, and more. Experts in each subject area will lead the discussion.

This year's class is made up of individuals from the corporate, legal, medical and non-profit sector - among other industries. These participants have all embraced change and the possibilities that come with it.

"We are excited to kick off another class," said Thomas Sommer, executive director of Leadership Oakland. "The individuals who make up this class are changemakers and doers and the knowledge they gain with us will make them stronger and more resilient in their chosen industries - something that will benefit this region immensely. We look forward to their contributions."

In the past few years, with the COVID-19 global pandemic, Leadership Oakland has had to adapt to the current events. Class LOXXX started in-person and went virtual; Class LOXXXI was all virtual until the May graduation and Class LOXXXII is starting virtual with plans to transition to in-person in January of 2022.

"We have been able to develop new programming that embraced an individual's challenges and hardships, but also offered enriching experiences that have resulted in inspiring moments," said Sommer.

Some of the changes Leadership Oakland has embraced include:
· Utilizing companies that specialize in on-line team building
· Identifying specific COVID response experts across all our domains
· Redesigning our class project parameters
· Introducing adaptive challenge leadership into our learning practice
· Emphasizing the importance of self-care through our collective journey

Leadership Oakland also recreated its Legislative Day visit to Lansing by bringing state and local elected officials in virtually for a robust question and answer session.
