Prime Minister holds bilateral talks with Bangladeshi Prime Minister during her trip to Thailand

On 26 April 2024, H.E. Mr. Srettha Thavisin, Prime Minister received H.E. Sheikh Hasina, Prime Minister of Bangladesh, during her official visit to Thailand between 24-29 April 2024. Also in attendance during the welcome ceremony in honour of the Guest of the Government was H.E. Mr. Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Both sides had bilateral discussions, in which they agreed to begin the FTA negotiations in order to expand trade and promote investment between the two countries, in particular processed food and Halal products. Furthermore, they also discussed Chittagong Port-Ranong Port connectivity, and cooperation in medical tourism. Both sides also exchanged views on the situation in Myanmar, humanitarian assistance for the Rohingyas, and collaboration on BIMSTEC.

After the meeting, two important documents were signed by DPM/FM, namely, the Agreement on Visa Exemption for Holders of Official Passports and the Memorandum of Understanding on Energy Cooperation. This is in addition to three other documents that were signed during the visit. These were the Letter of Intent to Commence the Negotiation of a Free Trade Agreement by 2024, the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Tourism, and the Memorandum of Understanding concerning Cooperation and Mutual Assistance in Customs Matters.
