Public invited to provide comment on proposed changes to Waljim Street extension

The Tyler Area Metropolitan Planning Organization(MPO) is hosting a public meeting to inform the public about proposed changes to a planned extension of Waljim Street. The changes to the proposed amendment to the Master Street Plan would remove a section of the proposed Waljim Street extension between South Town Drive and Thigpen Drive.

The public meeting will be held on Thursday, July 7 from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Tyler Development Center, 423 W. Ferguson St.

Staff from the MPO will be in attendance to answer questions and provide information about the Master Street Plan and the proposed amendment. Any comments about the proposed amendment will be presented to the MPO's Transportation Policy Committee when the proposed amendment is considered for adoption on July 28.

Information about the Master Street Plan can be found on the MPO website. Questions and comments can be submitted through the Contact Us page under the About section of the MPO's website or by emailing the MPO at [email protected].

The MPO held an open house on March 8 for the proposed amendment to the Master Street Plan which proposed extending Waljim Street connecting Market Square Boulevard and West Grande Boulevard. Members of the MPO's Transportation Policy Committee encouraged further discussion on the proposed amendment and future plans for the Waljim Street extension at their March 24 meeting.

This notice of public involvement satisfies the Federal Transit Administration's requirements for project programming.

The Tyler Area MPO coordinates transportation planning within the Tyler Metropolitan Area which includes Tyler, Hideaway, Lindale, New Chapel Hill, Noonday, Whitehouse and Bullard. The MPO is guided by a Transportation Policy Committee that includes representatives from Smith County, Tyler, surrounding cities, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and the Northeast Texas Regional Mobility Authority (NET RMA).
