Kentucky American Water Receives Award from Fayette County School Lea...

Kentucky American Water has received the 2021 Outstanding Service Award from the Fayette County Association of School Administrators. The organization presented the company with the award during its October meeting.

The Outstanding Service Award is made "in recognition of extraordinary dedication, excellence, and willingness to serve Fayette County Public Schools." In presenting the award, Fayette County Public Schools representatives referenced Kentucky American Water's 36-year sponsorship of the district science fair as well as other support the company has provided the educators and students over the years.

In 2020, the company provided more than $20,000 to Fayette County Public Schools for the installation of water bottle refilling stations at area schools that did not yet have them, in follow up to smaller donations the company has made to the school system in previous years for similar units. The donation resulted in students and staff at all Fayette County public schools having convenient access to affordable and healthy hydration at school while also reducing the amount of beverage bottles that make their way to the landfill.

Also in 2020, the company donated refillable water bottles for Fayette County student athletes, made a financial contribution to the newly established Manny Caulk Scholarship Program in memory of Fayette County's late superintendent and awarded its own Ripple Effect Scholarships to two Fayette County high school seniors.

Kentucky American Water initiated Fayette County's science fair for junior high school students in 1985 as part of the company's centennial anniversary celebration. In 1986 Fayette County Public Schools joined the event as its coordinator and in subsequent years the event expanded to elementary and high school participants. The fair attracts more than 600 student participants annually representing grades four through 12. Award recipients advance to regional competition and many have gone on to compete and receive recognition at the international level, too.

The company's other long-standing efforts to support students and educators in Fayette County have included hosting treatment plant tours, water conservation and water treatment presentations, staffing educational exhibits for science nights and more.

"Kentucky American Water appreciates and is proud to receive this special recognition for our long-standing partnership with Fayette County Public Schools," said Susan Lancho, senior manager of external communications for Kentucky American Water. "We appreciate the Fayette County Association of School Administrators recognizing our efforts in this way and extend our special gratitude to Fayette County's teachers, administrators and other staff members for all they do to serve our community's youth, especially during these challenging times."
