Westminster is the only team the Vikings will play this weekend for the first time. The other three opponents have played Augustana at least once in their history. Augustana holds a 4-1 record all-time against their opponent this weekend.
TAMUK returns 14 players from last season in which it went 19-14 during the 2018 campaign. With a 10-10 mark in conference play, the Javelinas finished sixth in the Lone Star Conference standings.
The Javelinas added four new freshmen this season. They join 14 returners from last season, including Melanie Casteel who leads the team with 33 kills. On the defensive side, Nicole Murff leads the team with 78 digs this season.
Westminster returns 13 players from last season in which it 7-19 during the 2018 campaign. With a 5-13 mark in conference play, the Griffins finished 13th in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
The Griffins added two new freshmen this season. They join 13 returners from last season, which includes junior Audrey Green who leads the team with 33 kills. On the defensive side, senior Amber Lamborn leads the team with 28 digs.
St. Edward's returns 14 players from last season in which it went 18-12 during the 2018 campaign. With a 7-5 mark in conference play, the Hilltoppers finished fourth in the Heartland Conference.
The Hilltoppers added two new freshmen this season. They join 14 returners from last season, including junior Katarina Mendez who leads the team in kills with 40 (2.67 K/set). On the defensive side, Camille Dedeaux leads the team with 50 digs (3.33 D/set) in 15 set played this season.
St. Mary's returns 12 players from last season in which it went 14-15 during the 2018 campaign. With an 8-4 mark in conference play, the Rattlers finished third in the Heartland Conference
The Rattlers added one new freshmen this season who join the 12 returners. Included in the 12 returners, sophomore Alissa Tolbert leads the team with 34 kills (3.09 K/set) and 29 digs (2.64 D/set) so far this season.
Augustana is coming off a successful weekend at the Loper Pre-Season Invite in which it went 3-1 to open up the 2019 season. NSIC Preseason Player to Watch, led the team with 42 kills (3.0 kills/set) and recorded 36 digs (2.57 digs/set). She also tied her career-high with 14 kills against Oklahoma Baptist.
The Viking freshmen had a strong debut in Kearney as led the team in kills with 13 against Findlay and amassed a total of 38 kills over the four matches. Another freshman, led the team in digs after recording 86 total digs over the weekend.
Sophomore setter , went over 1,000 career assists during the invite after she compiled a team-high 146 total assists (10.4/set) in the four matches.
One Last Thing
Thorson and Bute represented Augustana on the 2019 Loper Pre-season Invite All-Tournament team after both had successful weekends. Thorson was one shy of tying her single match career-high for assists with 49. Bute impressed in her Viking debut averaging 6.14 digs per set (86 total) which led the team over the weekend.
