The DTIC congratulates Tshwane Automotive SEZ for two consecutive clean audits

The Deputy Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition Mr Fikile Majola has congratulated the Tshwane Automotive Special Economic Zone (TASEZ) for having received a second consecutive clean audit for the financial year 2021/22. For the second year running, the Auditor-General, Ms Tsakani Maluleke delivered an unqualified audit opinion without any findings (a clean audit) on the TASEZ's Performance Evidence and Financial Statements.

Majola also says the TASEZ has made significant progress since its official establishment in May 2020. As the second year of the establishment of TASEZ came to close, the zone has managed to design and construct 12 automotive manufacturing plants. Three of the 12 investors have started production on the current Ford Model with the remainder of the investors gearing themselves for the new Ranger launch later in the 22/23 financial year.

As at the end of the financial year the investment made by these 12 investors were sitting at R3.41 billion against an overall projected investment of R4.3 billion. These investors had also managed to create 603 jobs with more than 1 400 jobs still to be created in the current financial year.

"TASEZ is now focusing on closing of all construction work for the Phase 1 and Phase 1A in terms of bulk services with the expected completion of all construction in September 2022. The total year to date procurement spent on Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) construction packages is currently sitting at 41%. 100% of these are SMMEs sourced from the township communities. A total of 3 509 construction jobs have been created," says Majola

The Tshwane Automotive SEZ is the first SEZ to be developed through a partnership between all three spheres of government and private sectors. These partners include the dtic, Gauteng provincial government, City of Tshwane and Ford Motor Company of South Africa. This is a new approach to the development of Spatial Industrial Development projects that the dtic has crafted to ensure that all catalytic projects are implemented through a single plan that is supported by all critical stakeholders.
