Central Maine Healthcare marks somber six-month anniversary of mass casualty incident

Central Maine Healthcare joined the central Maine community in observing the six-month anniversary of the Oct. 25, 2023 mass casualty event in Lewiston.

Candles returned to the atrium above the Central Maine Medical Center (CMMC) Emergency Room where they were displayed immediately after the incident and remained until the final surviving victim was discharged from CMMC last December.

Among those who gathered in the atrium today to mark the anniversary were members of senior leadership, physicians, nurses and a representative from the Spiritual Care department.

"Even with the passage of time, the ongoing healing process persists as we navigate our individual paths of recovery here at CMMC," said Kris Chaisson, chief nursing officer, Central Maine Healthcare. "Our thoughts are with our patients and their families as our collective resilience strengthens daily, bolstered by the unwavering support within our community."
