Cortez Masto, Rosen Applaud Over $1.8 Million in Nevada Transportation Safety Grants

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) and Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) released the following statement applauding a combined $1,847,425 in grant funding from the Department of Transportation to support transportation safety investments within the Silver State.

'We're thankful the Department of Transportation is supporting education and outreach programs that will help our state, local and tribal officials better understand and respond to transportation related public safety issues. These grants will help our state's law enforcement and first responders reduce casualties from commercial vehicle accidents and will help keep Nevada families out of harm's way, both on the roads and in their communities.'

BACKGROUND:

The grant funds will be awarded as follows:

  • $1,393,313 to the National Judicial College in Reno to implement the Department of Transportation's National Commercial Driver's License Program, which will help tribal judges and tribal court professionals enhance their understanding of commercial driver's license laws.
  • $210,001 to the City of Reno Police Department to improve commercial motor vehicle safety and training, helping Northern Nevada reduce the number and severity of accidents involving large trucks and buses.
  • $179,579 to the State of Nevada to design and implement emergency plans and training activities to ensure the safe transportation of hazardous materials through the state.
  • $64,532 to the Paiute-Shoshone Tribe of the Fallon Reservation and Colony to design and implement emergency plans and training activities to ensure the safe transportation of hazardous materials through the local tribal community.
