Arizona Receives Grant to Expand Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Marana

WASHINGTON - The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) National Cemetery Administration announced today that the Veterans Cemetery Grants Program (VCGP), which it oversees, has awarded a grant of up to $3,366,333.15 to the state of Arizona for the expansion of Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Marana.

"This cemetery was the 100^th state Veterans cemetery to be built with the support of the VCGP," said Under Secretary for Memorial Affairs Matthew Quinn. "NCA is proud to continue to fund its efforts so that Veterans and their families have access to a dignified burial close to home."

Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Marana currently serves more than 117,000 Veterans and their eligible family members living within 75 miles of the cemetery. The grant will fund 2,400 columbarium niches, Americans with Disabilities Act improvements, grading and drainage, landscaping, irrigation, and supporting infrastructure on approximately 0.85 acres of land.

Since its inception in 1978, the VCGP has provided more than $959 million to establish, expand, improve, operate, and maintain 121 cemeteries in which Veterans are currently interred. In fiscal year 2021, these cemeteries conducted more than 45,000 burials.
