Paintings by Amedeo Modigliani on display in Berlin

The Ambassador of Italy to Germany, Armando Varricchio, attended the opening of the exhibition 'Modigliani. Modern Gazes', now on display at the Museum Barberiniin Potsdam after being exhibited at the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart: an extremely important exhibition for the originality of its layout, capable of highlighting the cosmopolitan and modern nature of the painter.

The exhibition offers a wide selection of Modigliani's works, in dialogue with pieces by other European artists, shedding full light on the artist's ability to revalue women's image. "Modigliani's women do not seem subordinate. They do not look like objects", the Ambassador stressed. "Capturing the essence and importance of women in a twentieth-century context, characterised by the outset of the feminist movement, Amedeo Modigliani gives voice to women's dimensions".

The exhibition, organised by the Museum Barberini and the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart, under the patronage of the Italian Embassy in Berlin, will remain open until 18 August 2024.
