Women's Fencer Marina Arrese Tabs Second Straight CoSIDA Academic All-America Recognition

NJIT fifth-year women's fencer has been named as a First-Team selection on the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America Women's At-Large Team, the organization announced on Wednesday.

Arrese, a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-America and All-District selectee, earned All-America first-team recognition in 2022 and was selected to the second team in 2021.

A native of Madrid, Spain, Arrese was named to the Dean's List for six semesters, graduating Summa Cum Laude in May '21, with a bachelor's in Business with a concentration in Financial Technology. Arrese boosted a 4.0 undergraduate GPA. She recently graduated with a master's in Management while holding a 4.0 GPA on May 17, 2022.

This season, Arrese placed 23rd at the 2022 Mid-Atlantic South Regionals while finishing the regular season with an 89-27 overall record for a 77% winning percentage.

A Spring 2021 CoSIDA Academic All-America second-team honoree, Arrese was a recipient of the Elite 90 Award for the 2021 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Fencing Championship, earning the top academic achievement out of 144 participants competing at the NCAA Fencing Championships.

The 2021 NCAA All-American, placed ninth place with 13 victories out of 21 bouts for a .619 winning percentage at the NCAA Championships.

She served as co-president of the NJIT Investment Fund, working at the campus Financial Analysis Lab and serving on the Dean's Executive Student Leadership Council.

Twenty-two of the 48 members of the Academic All-America® Division I women's at-large teams boast a perfect 4.0 GPA in their undergraduate work or graduate school. The 15 members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.98, with the entire women's team holding a collective average GPA of 3.92.
