11th Annual Phoenix Police Officer Memorial Ceremony

On Tuesday, April 30, 3024, the Phoenix Police Department held the Eleventh Annual Phoenix Police Officer Memorial Ceremony at the Phoenix City Hall.

This annual event honors those who have been lost in the line of duty. This year, 45 individuals were recognized during the reading of the names. Officer David "Star" Johnson and Officer John Wing were additions to the ceremony this year.

Officer Johnson was killed in the line of duty on May 2, 1944 but had never been formally recognized by the department as a fallen officer until now. Learn more about his sacrifice in a documentary the department produced: https://www.phoenix.gov/newsroom/police/3051.

Officer Wing passed away February 5, 2023.

Families of the fallen attend the ceremony, some even joining in to read the names of their fallen officer and the daughter of Officer Wing, Hailee Wing, performed the National Anthem.

The service concluded around the Phoenix Employee Memorial Wall, outside of City Hall, with a laying of a wreath by Interim Chief Michael Sullivan.
