Higgins Will Vote Against Raising the Debt Limit

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) issued the following statement ahead of tonight's vote on H.R. 5305, which includes a short-term extension of government funding, $28.6 billion in disaster assistance, and a suspension of the debt limit through December 2022.

"Speaker Pelosi's decision to pair hurricane recovery funds with a socialist agenda partisan effort to suspend the debt limit, in order to pave the way for Biden's $3.5 trillion monstrosity bill, is unacceptable. This package in its current form will not pass the Senate and only further delays supplemental disaster assistance for South Louisiana. Our hurricane recovery needs should not be held hostage. Democrats are abusing their control of Congress to advance their reckless spending scheme. I support a clean bill that includes the disaster relief we've been demanding for a year. I will not be leveraged into supporting a multi-trillion dollar increase to America's debt limit."
