Menendez Statement on Senate Passage of Ukraine Supplemental Appropriations Act

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, issued the following statement after the Senate voted to approve the Ukraine Supplemental Appropriations Act, a $40 billion package of military, economic and humanitarian aid to Ukraine requested by President Joe Biden:

"I am proud to see the Senate and the House demonstrate our enduring commitment to Ukraine as Vladimir Putin continues his unprovoked and illegal assault. The authorization of this $40 billion supplemental to provide more artillery, antitank weapons and other hardware as well as economic and humanitarian aid for Ukraine is another blow to a beleaguered Putin already struggling to deal with the most impactful, coordinated, and wide-ranging economic sanctions levied in history. Beyond Ukraine, this package sends another powerful message to show Russia the United States will stand up for freedom and democracy.

"As the people of Ukraine continue to inspire the rest of the world with their fight to defend their democracy and restore their territorial integrity, the U.S. is fulfilling our promise to stand with them against the butcher of Moscow. Just this week, we have passed another package of economic, military and humanitarian aid for Ukraine, held one of the speediest confirmation processes for Bridget Brink to be our next ambassador to Ukraine, reopened the U.S. embassy in Kiev, and began laying the ground work to ensure we can approve the Treaty to accept Sweden and Finland's ascension into NATO.

"With our continued unity and support, here in the United States and around the world, Ukraine will be victorious."
