Dentons awarded for “Innovation in New Business Solutions” by the Financial Times

October 21, 2021

Global law firm Dentons received the award for "Innovation in New Business Solutions" at the Financial Times Innovative Lawyers Europe Awards 2021. In addition, Dentons was ranked among the top seven most innovative law firms in Europe overall.

The "Innovation in New Business Solutions" award recognizes Dentons' Opportunity Tracker, an internal collaboration app, which draws on data from more than 20,000 sources to generate actionable business intelligence and help lawyers identify business opportunities in near real time. It also allows lawyers to create and share new opportunities with colleagues across Europe - thereby maximizing the value and reach of Dentons' proprietary business intelligence. The tool employs machine learning algorithms and natural language processing to convert big data into easy-to-digest updates, which can be filtered according to sector, country, or practice area.

Břetislav Šimral, Director of Dentons´ Insights and Intelligence group, led the development of the tool, with support from Ugo Bisacco, Yuliya Lebedeva and Pavel Štika as well as leadership sponsorship from Tomasz Dąbrowski, Europe Chief Executive Officer, and Richard Singer Europe Chief Managing Officer. In addition, numerous colleagues from across Europe participated in beta testing and shared opportunities through the tool.

Břetislav Šimral commented, "Thanks to the hard work of our Insight and Intelligence team, the vision of an integrated collaboration solution enhanced with external and proprietary intelligence has not only become a reality, but has also been appreciated by the jury of the FT Innovative Lawyer Awards 2021. We are honored and inspired by this award."

In addition to the award, Dentons was shortlisted in four other categories, including,

  • Most innovative law firm: For our overall strong performance in this year's research
  • Innovation in people and skills: For the Innovation Training scheme, in which trainees in the UK can take six modules to introduce them to innovation practices such as legal design and robotic process automation, and work on projects with real applications.
  • Innovation in social justice: For the Warsaw office's pro bono support of LGBTQ+ human rights in Poland
  • Innovative law firm transformation: For Dentons Helix, a hybrid between legal managed services and private practice, which covers commercial, employment and real estate work ranging from complex work, all on a fixed fee basis.

"The FT Innovation awards are among the most prestigious in our industry, and we are honored to be recognized among Europe's most innovative law firms," said Tomasz Dąbrowski, Europe Chief Executive Officer. "I would like to thank all of our shortlisted teams for their efforts over the last year, and offer a special congratulations to our Insights and Intelligence team on their recognition."
