Minister of Foreign Affairs visits Singkhon-Mawtaung Special Point of Entry

On 13 May 2024, H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, visited Prachuap Khiri Khan Province to receive a briefing from local authorities and the private sector on the current security and economic situation along the Thailand-Myanmar border near Singkhon-Mawtaung Special Point of Entry.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs discussed with local authorities and the private sector about upgrading the Singkhon-Mawtaung Special Point of Entry to an international point of entry, with a view to create more options for cross-border transportation and to boost border trade between Thailand and Myanmar. This is especially important given the ongoing situation in Myanmar, where conflicts have disrupted cross-border transportation through the Mae Sot - Myawaddy International Point of Entry, the largest channel for cross-border trade between Thailand and Myanmar.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs also discussed with the local private sector on ways to maximise the economic potential of the Singkhon-Mawtaung Special Point of Entry. These include developing infrastructure to facilitate goods in transit from Myanmar to other countries and easing restrictions to facilitate border crossings for business, tourism, and educational purposes.
