Secil investe €86 milhões na cimenteira de Setúbal para reduzir CO2 e criar mais emprego

The Secil project, one of the main cement producing companies in Portugal and a member of AIP since 1919, has already started and requires an amount of 86 million euros to completely remodel the factory in Outão, in the heart of the Seera da Arrábida Natural Park.

The new plant will reduce CO2 emissions by 20%, increase energy efficiency by 20%, generate 30% of electricity through heat recovery and create more qualified jobs.

Considered the largest industrial investment underway in the country, the renewed cement plant will be more sustainable, eliminating primary fossil fuels and thus reducing its carbon footprint.

Secil's second life in Outão will bring more and better jobs, including in the area of scientific research.

Otmar Hubscher, the company's executive president, told the newspaper Expresso that this is a project with 'indisputable gains for the region', especially during the construction and assembly phase of equipment, which will involve around 500 workers.

In the operational phase, the company is expected to create 286 more jobs, of which seven will be qualified jobs linked to research and development at the cement plant's technical center.

Secil has an annual production in the order of 4 million tons of cement, ensuring more than 35% of the cement needs in Portugal.

At 90, Secil found its formula for a more sustainable future, contributing to the protection of humanity and the preservation of the planet.
