Dallas ISD News Briefing: May 23

DALLAS - Dallas ISD is proud to announce that it received the 2022 Partner of the Year award by the Robotics Education & Competition Foundation (REC) and VEX Robotics. Twenty-nine teams across 18 schools in the district participated along 20,000 students from 49 states and 36 countries at the 2022 VEX Robotics World Championship last week. The district has hosted teams from all over the region to compete at 12 in-person VEX robotics tournaments at Dallas ISD schools.

Read for Me to host multiple events at local libraries

On Saturday, June 4, we invite all Pre-K through fifth-grade students to our Read for Me event taking place at Dallas Public libraries. In addition to snagging more than 14,000 free books, students and parents will meet authors, work with community members, and experience the joy of literacy.

AAPI profile - Zoe Nelle, ESL Instructional Specialist

Her joy of teaching and an appreciation for Dallas ISD's diversity turned a temporary U.S. teaching assignment into a 28-year tenure in the district for Zoe Nelle. Born in the Philippines, Nelle joined the district in the early '90s among a group of 75 Philippine teachers recruited due to of a shortage of applicants in the U.S. She currently works in the district's Dual Language ESL department where she coaches other teachers and staff to make an impact in the lives and academic pursuits of bilingual students.
