Global Arbitration Review (GAR) interviewed Giovanni Angles about his decision to join Shook's growing Global Arbitration Practice, led by Carlos Concepción. In 'Shook Hires Of Counsel in Miami,' Angles told GAR he is 'looking forward to collaborating with Carlos and this team of experienced arbitration attorneys.'
Angles represents individuals, corporations and sovereign governments in international commercial and investment-treaty arbitrations, when foreign investors sue sovereign governments pursuant to international law. He will help Shook expand litigation capabilities globally, particularly in Latin America and Europe. He is the third arbitration attorney Shook has added to its team in the last six months.
Concepción told GAR, 'It was clear that his experience in international litigation and arbitration would be a good match for our growing team and our clients.'
A former colleague described Angles as 'a fine young lawyer who worked with our team on ICSID, ICC, ICDR and UNCITRAL matters and who will be missed.'
'Challenges occur when investors' treaty rights clash with a state's inherent authority to enact regulatory changes,' Angles told Law360 in 'Shook Boosts IA Practice With New Hire in Miami Office.' That's where we come in to try and work out solutions and protect our clients' interests.' In the article, Angles also talked about why investors may need the services of international arbitration attorneys.
Angles is a member of the International Association of Young Lawyers (AIJA).
