5G, Innovates for Good

[Shenzhen, China, April 14, 2021] At the 2021 Huawei Global Analyst Summit (HAS2021), Daisy Zhu, Vice President of Huawei's Wireless Network Marketing Department, delivered a keynote speech: '5G, Innovates for Good'. In her speech, Ms. Zhu elaborated on Huawei's innovative concept of '1+N' target networks and shared Huawei's industry-leading 5G full-series products and solutions. She emphasized that, to achieve '1+N' 5G target networks, Huawei will continue to improve the coverage and experience of 5G networks by continuously innovating multi-antenna technologies and enhance 5GtoB capabilities in high reliability, high uplink, and low latency. 'Huawei will also provide premium 5GtoB service capabilities from planning, construction, maintenance, and optimization, which will demonstrate the value of 5G to society.'

5G has entered a new phase of development with a positive cycle of mutual reinforcement among networks, users, devices, and services. The increasingly mature device ecosystem and decreasing device prices have made 5G devices more affordable, which, in turn, has increased their popularity among consumers. This development urges carriers to speed up the improvement of 5G coverage. The significantly improved experience of 5G networks has also motivated the industry to launch a plethora of innovative services, resulting in a multifold increase in mobile data traffic in the customer market. The industrial market has also witnessed a drastically growing demand for 5G high uplink, low latency, and high reliability, calling for further improvement in 5G's capabilities.

To fulfill differentiated connectivity requirements in both the consumer and industrial markets, Huawei proposed '1+N' target networks to help carriers build high-quality 5G networks through continuous innovation in 5G solutions.

5G Full-Band, Full-Scenario, Multi-Antenna Solutions

Massive MIMO is key for 5G to deliver premium experience. Huawei debuted its commercial 5G Massive MIMO products in 2018, and, since then, Huawei has been leading in the industry in the 5G Massive MIMO field. To date, more than one million 5G Massive MIMO units have been deployed, and Huawei's 5G Massive MIMO solutions have become the first option for carriers around the globe.

After over a decade of continuous investment and research, Huawei has achieved a huge number of technological breakthroughs in the radio access network (RAN) area. Huawei has introduced multi-antenna technologies to a full range of 5G bands and use cases to improve the coverage and experience of 5G and increase the capacity of 5G networks. This has greatly helped carriers realize both ubiquitous coverage and high bandwidth for both ToC and ToB services with just a single basic network.

The multi-antenna technology expands from TDD to FDD and ultimately to all bands. Huawei has launched the industry's leading TDD Massive MIMO modules in terms of weight and bandwidth specifications to simplify site deployment and increase construction efficiency. The increasing maturity in implementing this technology has greatly boosted its performance on commercial networks, and its applications on FDD bands are also already the mainstream. To meet diverse requirements on capacity, experience, and coverage in various scenarios, Huawei has developed a series of FDD NR products that support multi-band 4T4R, 8T8R, and Massive MIMO to help carriers build networks on demand.

The multi-antenna technology upgrades from multi-pole to single-pole use cases and from outdoor to indoor environments. To meet network requirements in high-density indoor areas, Huawei has implemented the distributed Massive MIMO solution - the only one of its kind in the industry to support Gigabit experience in indoor networks - by integrating the multiple-antenna technologies into indoor networks. To facilitate the construction of networks in areas with a limited antenna space, Huawei has developed the 32T/64T BladeAAU Pro - the first in the industry to deliver the ultimate performance with a single pole.

Algorithms are the core to maximized Massive MIMO capabilities. Based on years of accumulating R&D capabilities in Massive MIMO, Huawei has launched the industry's highest performing Adaptive High Resolution (AHR) algorithm for Massive MIMO. By ensuring accurate channel estimation, this algorithm significantly increases the accuracy of beamforming and the single-user MIMO (SU-MIMO) and multi-user MIMO (MU-MIMO) performance to help ensure both premier experience and cell capacity.

Continuously Innovating 'N' Capabilities

Unlike people-oriented connections, things-oriented connections across various industries require networks to provide not only ubiquitous coverage but also massive connectivity. In some use cases, service experience depends on not only the overall data speed, but more specifically both uplink and downlink rates as well as end-to-end latency and positioning. Furthermore, diverse network capabilities must be flexibly combined based on service models, raising the requirements on network construction and maintenance.

Facing this new development, Huawei has been constantly improving 5GtoB solutions to meet the diverse requirements of various industries. Huawei has become the only vendor in the industry to launch Super Uplink (SUL) - an innovative solution that leverages the uplink and downlink resources of both FDD and TDD as well as dedicated spectrum to efficiently improve uplink capacity, meeting the requirements of over 80% of 5GtoB applications. Recognizing the service requirements for small-scale planning, construction, maintenance, and optimization of various enterprises, Huawei has launched the industry's first 5GtoB Suite to facilitate intelligent and accurate planning, full-lifecycle automation, and proactive device-network O&M - essential capabilities required to build highly reliable 5GtoB networks and secure 5GtoB success.

Ms. Zhu concluded that 'this will be a golden decade for the development of 5G. Huawei will continue to work with partners to improve 5G networks through continuous evolution so as to enable 5G to thrive with constant fresh vitality and momentum.'
