Number of persons employed in trade and in services decreased in 2020

Vienna,2021-04-06 - In 2020, the number of persons employed decreased by 1.7% in trade and by 7.3% in services compared to 2019. According to calculations by Statistics Austria, hours worked by employees fell by 9.9% in trade and by 19.3% in services. Wages and salaries also declined by 1.3% for employees of trade enterprises and by 4.3% for employees in services enterprises. The main reason for this decrease is the shutdown of a large part of the enterprises and the resulting short-time work as part of the measures to contain the corona pandemic.

Please note that employees were not measured in full time equivalents.
