ADOT’s Weekend Freeway Travel Advisory (July 13-16)

PHOENIX - The westbound lanes of US 60 (Superstition Freeway) in Tempe will be closed this weekend (July 13-16) for lane striping and other safety-based improvements, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. Weekend restrictions also are planned at the Interstate 10 'Stack' interchange with I-17 and on the State Route 51 (Piestewa Freeway) off-ramps at Indian School Road in Phoenix.[Attachment]

Project schedules are subject to change due to inclement weather. Drivers should allow extra travel time, use caution and consider alternate routes while the following restrictions are in place:

  • Westbound US 60 (Superstition Freeway) closed between Loop 101 and Interstate 10 in Tempe from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (July 16) for lane striping, sign installation and other improvement work. Both Loop 101 ramps to westbound US 60 closed. Westbound I-10 off-ramp at Baseline Road closed. DETOUR: Westbound US 60 traffic can detour to Loop 101. Drivers also can use either westbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) toward Sky Harbor Airport and downtown Phoenix or westbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) to connect with I-10 in the Chandler area. NOTE: Eastbound I-10 left two lanes closed between Broadway Road and the US 60 interchange from 9 p.m. Friday to 11 p.m. Saturday (July 14). The eastbound I-10 HOV-lane ramp to eastbound US 60 and westbound I-10 right lane near the US 60 interchange also closed.
  • East- and westbound Interstate 10 ramps to southbound I-17 at the 'Stack' interchange closed from 11:30 p.m. Saturday to 8 a.m. Sunday (July 15) for APS utility pole placement. Northbound I-17 on-ramp at Adams Street and southbound on-ramp at McDowell Road also closed. I-17 closed intermittently as needed in both directions near the I-10 Stack (south of McDowell Road). Expect each I-17 closure to last up to 20 minutes.DETOUR: Westbound I-10 traffic can access southbound I-17 by exiting to southbound 19th Avenue and using westbound Grant Street. Eastbound I-10 traffic can access southbound I-17 by exiting to southbound 27th Avenue and using eastbound Buckeye Road. Please allow extra travel time for I-17 intermittent closures or consider alternate routes.
  • North- and southbound State Route 51 (Piestewa Freeway) off-ramps at Indian School Road restricted with no turns allowed to eastbound Indian School Road from 3 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday (July 14) for a city of Phoenix waterline project. SR 51 traffic exiting at Indian School Road limited to westbound turns. Eastbound Indian School Road narrowed to one lane near SR 51. DETOUR: Consider using Thomas Road as alternate route.
