Scottsdale Update - Oct. 21, 2021

Important information for the Nov. 2 Special Election. The city will hold a Special Election by mail Tuesday, Nov. 2, regarding Proposition 463. This proposition asks voters to consider whether or not to ratify the "Scottsdale General Plan 2035."

Just a reminder that election mail cannot be forwarded. While the Maricopa County Recorder's Office checks local and national lists for address changes and vital statistics, some voters are not on those lists. A new law added a check box to the outside of the yellow ballot envelope. If you received a ballot for someone who no longer lives at your residence, check the box on the yellow envelope and return it to United States Postal Service. This is a valuable way to help the county maintain the voter rolls.

Remember to mail your voted ballot by Tuesday, Oct. 26, to ensure it gets counted before Nov. 2 ... the deadline for ballots to be received (NOT postmarked) by Maricopa County.

Scottsdale seeks Transportation Action Plan feedback via virtual meeting. Scottsdale residents, business owners and people who work in the city are invited to participate in a virtual public meeting to provide feedback on Scottsdale's draft 2021 Transportation Action Plan. This document will guide the city's transportation priorities, investments and programs over the next decade. Providing input is easy. Visit ScottsdaleAZ.gov and search "TAP" to find links to the online virtual meeting presentations, along with supporting material and information and an online feedback form. Online feedback will be open through Sunday, Oct. 31.

Attend an open house Monday regarding the Old Town Character Area Plan. The city is hosting a series of in-person open houses regarding updates to the Old Town Character Area Plan and the downtown sections of the Scottsdale Zoning Ordinance. Each session will include a series of presentations and discussion groups to collect public input. Attend one of the following sessions Monday, Oct. 25: 8:30-10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. or 5:30-7:30 p.m., at the Community Design Studio, 7506 E. Indian School Road. Register.

It's the 20th annual Arizona Cities and Towns Week (Oct. 17-23). Cities and towns work 24 hours, seven days a week, 365 days a year to provide services to citizens. If cities and towns were not constantly working, it would have a huge impact from the moment we wake up and turn on the water, to driving home on paved streets with working traffic signals. Mayor David D. Ortega signed a proclamation celebrating city employees and recognizing the hard work it takes to make sure our community, residents and visitors are respected and provided the highest quality of service. Scottsdale Career Center is hosting a hiring event. A variety of employers will be onsite at Vista del Camino to hire people on the spot. Listen to the music … free Scottsdale Band Concert shows. This band performs a diverse repertoire ranging from timeless Big Band favorites, contemporary wind music and rousing patriotic. Concerts take place at various times and locations Wednesday, Oct. 27; Wednesday, Dec. 15; March 2022 (date tba); and Saturday, May 14, 2022. Get specific information.

Scottsdale sustainability program puts WestWorld horse waste to good use. Thousands of pounds of horse waste, produced annually during events at WestWorld of Scottsdale, will go on to become nutrient rich soil for native desert plants through the city's partnership with Mountain States Wholesale. WestWorld hosts about 40 equestrian events each year, which produce around 40,000 tons (approximately 20,000 cubic yards) of horse manure. If the manure weren't repurposed, it would go to the landfill. Read more.

Trash and recycling collection days change Nov. 1. The change will improve efficiency and make it easier to process recyclables. Operating more efficiently means the city can balance the size of collection routes to provide more consistent service, preserve the longevity of collection vehicles by carrying the right sized loads and not overload our recycling processing center. These changes will not affect planned rate increases and should help stabilize future rates. Find your new collection day.
