BAKER, NV - President Warren G. Harding declared Lehman Caves a national monument on January 24, 1922. It was dedicated in a grand celebration on August 6th that involved the American Legion, the mayor of Baker, and local school children. For 11 years the Caves were administered by the U.S. Forest Service, until 1933 when they were transferred to the U.S. National Park Service. In 1986, with the establishment of Great Basin National Park, Lehman Caves National Monument was abolished and incorporated into the new park.

To commemorate this major anniversary there will be events throughout the year. Including cooking demonstrations including a Dutch oven dinner, lantern tours of the cave, horse shoeing and more. On August 6, 2022 there will be a special event to celebrate the dedication of the National Monument which occurred on August 6, 1922.
