Patterson Foundation Awards More Than $155,000 In Q2 Grants

8/3/2023

The grants will be given to 11 nonprofit organizations

August 3, 2023 (ST. PAUL, Minn.) - The Patterson Foundation announced its second-quarter grants by awarding $155,450 to 18 different organizations. Of these, seven organizations are dental focused, one focuses on assistance dogs, three are dental Mission of Mercy events happening across the country, and nine grants support specific FFA state chapters to offer teacher development funding.

A group of nine Patterson employees and retirees selected the Q2 grant applications based on their alignment to the Patterson Foundation's mission, and their ability to directly increase oral health access, service dog availability, and educational opportunities for high school and college-bound kids around the country.

"We are thoroughly excited to support these great organizations and know that the Foundation's contributions are helping to fill a need in our community," said Allie Krug, grants manager for the Patterson Foundation and Patterson Companies corporate giving. "We were able to touch all parts of the country with this quarter's recipients."

The following grantees received funding in June 2023 from the Patterson Foundation:

  • Blue Ridge Mountains Health Project, Inc. - $10,000 in Cashiers, NC

  • Community Smiles Dental Clinic (Waukesha County) - $15,000 in Waukesha, WI

Community Smiles Dental is the only safety net dental clinic in the region dedicated to providing affordable dental care and a dental home to low-income children, pregnant women, and vulnerable adults. Grant funds will partially support the CSD program and its outreach manager who oversees volunteer dentists and students who provide care to youth, and the dental hygienist on staff who conducts on-site screenings and fluoride treatments for youth patients at the Town Hall Clinic in Menomonee Falls through its Medical-Dental Integration program.

  • Community Volunteers in Medicine - $10,000 in West Chester, PA

Founded in 1998 as a free clinic primarily staffed by volunteers, CVIM continues to be committed to its original objective - increasing access to high-quality primary medical and dental care, among other forms of wraparound care. Grant funding will be used to assist with the increased cost of salaries for a dental assistant and/or hygienist who will work with core staff and volunteers to provide free dental care including hygiene, restorative and surgical interventions, on-site X-rays, and free medication for oral infections.

  • Matthew 25, Inc. - $5,000 in Fort Wayne, IN

Matthew 25 Health and Care provides the underserved population with the treatments they need to maintain a healthy life. The grant award from the Patterson Foundation will be used to fund their dental assistants' salaries. The Patterson Foundation has been partnering with Matthew 25, Inc. since 2016.

  • Community Health Clinic of Butler County - $10,000 in Butler, PA

CHC Dental opened in 2010 to provide exams, cleanings, fillings, extractions, oral cancer screenings, X-rays and anterior root canals for underserved populations in Butler, Pennsylvania. Funding from this grant will help support the salary of the one paid, part-time dental assistant/manager for the CHC, as well as the one paid, part-time dental hygienist on staff.

  • Dental Aid - $17,500 in Louisville, CO

Their team provides emergency, preventive and restorative care, as well as specialized care in endodontics, prosthodontics and oral surgery. Dental Aid is in the process of creating new operatory/practice space at their clinic, and the funds from this grant will be used to help upfit the space and pay for the foundational elements of the space.

The Native American Community Dental Clinic opened its doors on May 6, 2010, to serve and address oral health disparities among American Indians/Alaskan Natives (AI/ANs) living in the Twin Cities. The funds awarded to NACC will help support the salaries of their advanced dental therapist as well as their dental clinic manager to help implement internal procedures on integrating scheduling between the dental clinic and MAT program. These funds will also be used to support the NACC van to provide transportation for MAT patients to the dental clinic.

  • Canine Partners for Life - $32,050 in Cochranville, PA
