The grants come from the Department of Homeland Security's State Criminal Alien Assistance Program and reimburse localities for costs they have incurred from incarcerating illegal immigrants who committed crimes, ensuring a department's limited resources are not wasted as a result of the Biden administration's failure to secure the border.
"I want to thank Representative Mike Gallagher for helping Brown County taxpayers by supporting the State Criminal Alien Assistance Program (SCAAP). This program allows local Sheriff's Offices to recoup costs related to the incarceration of undocumented criminal aliens who have been convicted of committing crimes in our communities,"said Sheriff Todd J. Delain, Brown County Sheriff."These funds are critical to the operating budget of our jail and without them, serious cuts would need to be made to the services we provide our inmates," said Sheriff John F. Matz, Winnebago County Sheriff.
