SWOSU Nursing Holds In-Person Orientation for Class of 2026

The Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) Department of Nursing hosted an in-person orientation for the graduating class of 2026 on Tuesday, April 30. This event was designed for students recently admitted to the SWOSU Nursing program and beginning nursing courses in the Fall 2024 semester. The goal is to provide essential preparation for program entry, clarify clinical requirements, facilitate introductions to faculty and peers, and encourage success in the nursing program.

The orientation featured six informational stations, each led by faculty members. These stations covered crucial topics such as clinical compliance, uniform standards, required supplies, education expectations, additional paperwork, and official patch distribution. Students rotated through these stations in groups, receiving comprehensive information packets at each station.

Discussions included the specifics of clinical compliance, including requirements and deadlines for TB testing, vaccinations, and CPR certification. Additionally, students learned about uniform standards, differentiating between what is required and what is not appropriate. Discussions also included information about necessary supplies essential for their clinical education, such as stethoscopes and lab kits.

To mark the beginning of their nursing journey, students also received their official nursing patches for their uniforms.
