Entry Level Firefighter/Paramedic

The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners for the Village of Chicago Ridge is now accepting applications for the position of Entry Level Firefighter/Paramedic.

Testing is being conducted for anticipated hires and to establish an eligibility list for future hiring needs.

Located in Cook County, the village is 18 miles southwest of the Loop. Chicago Ridge is bordered by Oak Lawn on the north and east, Bridgeview and Palos Hills on the west, and Worth on the south.

The Village of Chicago Ridge is served by a Fire Chief, 3 Captains, 3 Lieutenants, 7 full-time and 19 part-time firefighter/paramedics.

You must meet the following minimum requirements:

• Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen.

• Driver's License: Must possess a valid Driver's License at the time of application with the ability to obtain an Illinois Driver's License upon time of hire.

• Age Requirement: Applicants must have attained their 21st birthday by the last date for filing applications (7/13/22) and must be under the age of 35 years at time of testing 7/30/2022 and at such time as the final eligibility list is posted, unless exempt by State Statute 65 IL 5/10 - 2. 1-6 which provides, in part, that the age limitation does not apply to any person previously employed as a certified full-time firefighter in a regularly constituted fire department of any municipality or fire protection district located in Illinois.

• Education: Must have proof of High School Diploma, GED Certificate or High School Proficiency Statement.

• Language: Must be able to speak, read and write English language fluently.

• Residence: Must reside in the State of Illinois within six months following the probationary period.

• Certification: Must be a certified Paramedic by the State of Illinois or a Nation License at time of application and at time of employment.

• CPAT Card with Ladder Climb - NOTE: Not needed to apply, but candidates must possess a valid CPAT Card with Ladder Climb - cards considered valid if issued within one year prior to time of conditional offer for employment.

There is a $30.00 non-refundable application fee. Applications are NOT available at the Chicago Ridge Fire Department or Village Hall.
