CTDOT Invites the Public to Virtual Informational Meeting for Route 57 Improvements in Westport

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) will conduct a Virtual Public Information Meeting concerning the proposed Intersection Improvements at Route 57 at Route 136 in Westport on Thursday, June 9, 2022 beginning at 7 p.m.The meeting will be live streamed via Microsoft Teams Live Event and YouTube Live. Instructions on how to access the meeting and on how to provide comments or ask questions can be found on the project webpage: State Project No. PP-158-009.

The purpose of this project is to reduce congestion and congestion related-crashes at the flashing beacon intersection of Route 57 and Route 136. The existing traffic signals at the intersections of Route 57 at Merritt Parkway northbound ramps and Route 57 at Merritt Parkway southbound ramps, which are beyond their expected service life, will be replaced, as well as a part of this project.

The scope of proposed work includes replacing the existing flashing beacon with a fully actuated traffic signal at the intersection of Route 57 and Route 136. Work will include widening the roadway approaches to provide adequate number of lanes for efficient traffic operation, removal/installation of sidewalks and other associated ancillary work.

There are right-of-way impacts associated with the proposed improvements, which could include partial acquisitions, as well as various easements and rights.

The proposed project is in the early stages of concept development. No funding has been identified and no schedule has been developed. The Public Informational Meeting is being held to communicate existing conditions, discuss feasibility of proposed solutions, and receive public feedback for determining desired project outcomes.
